Today I found this on my computer. No comment.
today’s draw as messily as you can day
(( what I liked about Kyle in pre-52 was that his humour was incredibly wry. People think Kyle = goofy humour, but that’s not entirely true. He can do ironic humour (the real kind, not the lazy-excuse hipster kind). Case in point - these three panels.
- In the first one, he’s agreeing to disobey UN legislation with the rest of the JLA. Civil disobedience never hurt anyone, huh Kyle? But he’s not ignorant, he’s being droll (and pretty cocky).
- Here he’s being a bit more explicit and not as subtle. More like sarcasm, as he’s trying to goad Liana into a reaction.
- He’s been struck blind and he’s trying to be all blase about it (he earlier had his tantrum, and now he’s pissed off/come to terms with it, so it’s time to use humour to deal with it. also he’s confident it’ll be fixed which is so very GL of him), by downplaying vision for artists. Obviously vision is very important for artists, he knows that. That’s the point of the joke he’s making.
Anyway, so yeah. I think he gets mildly amused when people don’t get when he’s trying to make a joke, and think he’s being earnestly foolish, when he’s not.
Although to be fair I do think Kyle also plays up his earnest foolishness on many occasions, as Kate’s pointed out…. XD ))
